Larp House Presents: Halloween Survival Guide

Updated: registration link

Pumpking with relief carved angry face

One night every year, the children of the world shed their innocent guises and reveal their true selves: These monsters roam neighborhoods, searching for helpless adults to feed their endless hunger.

Mercifully, we have found that a common household chemical—sugar, of all things—numbs their murderous ravening. You can avoid a grisly fate through preparation and common sense, but you’ll need to keep your wits to do it.

What

Halloween Survival Guide, a lighthearted party larp for one or more hopeful survivors of Halloween.

Designed by Jay Treat
Organized by TLS

When

Wednesday, 31 October 2018 from 6:30 pm to 12:00 am

Where

The larp will be held at a private residence in St. Paul. Full details will be emailed to participants.

Registration

Participation in this event is free of charge, although a potluck offering is encouraged. (See below)

If you are interested in playing, fill out our Halloween Survival Guide sign-up form before 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 25th. There is no upper limit for players, but there is a limit to how many people we can host. In the unlikely event that more than 15 people sign up for the larp we will let participants know what to expect on Sunday, October 28th. Please register so we can plan accordingly!

Play Style

The play style is fairly casual. Players will interact with real trick-or-treaters and take them very seriously. We’re larpers after all—let’s make these kids’ night! The larp plays through an unbroken sequence until there are no more trick-or-treaters. Roleplaying prompts include non-mandatory consumption of candy and physical contact between players. Violence and romance will be represented by meta techniques, should they come up at all. The larp is available for free online if you’d like to check it out.

Costuming

Costuming highly encouraged, but not technically mandatory.

Accessibility Info

Private residence, non-ADA accessible, some stairs to enter. Background music will be used during play. Bathroom available. Food and snacks will be present. Alcohol will be present. The venue is a home for multiple cats.

Content Warnings

None, other than spooky monsters!

About the Event

Please consider this a Halloween party with a veneer of larp. The social aspect will probably be a larger part of your experience at this event.

This is a potluck. Please bring something to share if you’re able! Especially if you expect to need more than snacks or would like to drink alcohol.

As mentioned above alcohol will be present, but we ask that participants enjoy responsibly. Hosts reserve the right to ask participants to leave should they become inappropriately inebriated at the host’s discretion.

There are also pre-event pumpkin carving (on an earlier date) and decorating (5pm day of the event) in the works. Please indicate your interest for these in the sign-up form, and expect correspondence from the hosts regarding these extracurricular activities.
