Un/sanctioned Songs: A larp about music censorship

You are a group of musicians and producers trying to make art under an authoritarian regime’s censorship. Listen to and curate protest music, and talk about the impact music can have when performed. Shape your character’s story as you navigate the consequences of state censorship, grapple with the spectre of self-censorship, and try to stay true to your artistic vision and your ideals–or perhaps change them, in the face of your experiences. Can you collectively organize a resistance strong enough to speak out against the Regime?

What

A live action game about music censorship.

Duration: 5 hours
Players: 6 to 12 players

Larp House Presents: Strangers

CANCELLED —

Strangers: An Immigration Larp

Difficulties can arise when different cultures meet on uneven terms.

Two cultures in neighboring countries. Not friends and not enemies, each minding their own business. Then catastrophe hits one country, forcing the inhabitants to flee and seek refuge among their foreign neighbors.

Strangers is an abstract larp which uses physical methods such as signed concepts and simple movement routines to create two cultures and the feeling of belonging or not belonging to these. It aims to explore refugees trying to fit in, and the reactions among the people who they try to fit in amongst.

This acclaimed scenario by the genre-defining designer Nina Runa Essendrop has been the toast of European festivals and North American larp conventions. Known for her profoundly emotional  and movement-based games, we are thrilled to bring Nina’s Strangers to Minnesota for the first time!

The Language of Bones by July Pilowsky

Iluvenen was once a dark and nameless wilderness ruled by monsters. Then the noble heroes of the West came in their chariots, slew the monsters, and raised from the wilderness a great nation.

That is the story told in Iluvenen. The monster-kin, descended from the children of humans and monsters, are an inconvenient reminder of what the story fails to explain.

The Language of Bones is a game played in pairs. One person plays a monster-kin raising a monster from their grave with the power of dance, and the other plays their long-dead ancestor. Throughout gameplay, the monster-kin are able to speak, but the monsters cannot, because the language of bones is dance. This is a game about genocide, legacy, erasure, reclamation, and the complex fractures between ancestors and descendants.

Larp House Presents: Space Squids

You are between 4 and 7 feet in length, possess a head, mantle, eight locomotive limbs and two manipulative tentacles arranged symmetrically around your central axis. You respire through osmotic absorption of oxygen suspended in liquid hydrogen dioxide. You are, in short, a space squid.

The evolutionary advantage your species enjoys is that while engaged in mating behaviors using your two tentacles, your ganglia meld with those of your partners, combining your intellect and skills, but also your attitudes and biases. Which is critically important today, because your deep space colonization vessel has broken down! If you can keep the ship habitable, restart the engines, and plot a new course you should be able survive to settle on a planet. If you hope to survive, you will have to work together!

WHAT: SPACE SQUIDS, a parlor larp playtest for 6 – 24 players (the more the merrier!).
Designed by Kevin McIntyre and Jon Cole
Organized by Jon Cole, Kevin McIntyre, and Kathy Shane

WHEN: Saturday, June 30th from 2pm to 6pm
